Help build equitable heat resilience in communities across Indiana.

Discover Heat Vulnerability Mapping Tool

The spatial variation of heat vulnerability is dramatic even within small communities, with its adverse effects disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations. Prompted by the 2022 Richmond Warehouse fire, the heat vulnerability mapping tool was created to provide communities with an interactive, decision support tool to identify, target and support heat resilience among vulnerable populations.

Learn about the HVI

heat wave

Heat vulnerability index (HVI) is a measure of Heat Exposure, Susceptibility and Adaptive Capacity. A high Heat Vulnerability Index indicates that the area is disproportionately affected by the adverse effects of extreme heat. These areas have to be prioritized by decision makers for heat resilience initiatives.
